Dear Fellow Motorhomer,
November and there are still motorhomes touring in warmer climates on our Portugal and Spain Discovery tour. This tour started at the beginning of October in northern Spain and travelled along Spain’s Costa Verde (Green Coast). The route taken followed closely to the Camino de Santiago, a walking route that runs for hundreds of kilometres to finish the pilgrim way at Saint James Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. A good fictional film about the walk is ‘The Way’, staring Martin Sheen and his son (Emilio Estevez). Our tour continued on and has since travelled the length of Portugal, from north to south over 24 nights, visiting Porto, the Douro Valley, Coimbra, Aveiro, Nazare, Obidos, Coruche, Evora and Albufeira. This week the tour returned to Spain and its southern area of Andalucía, for a further two weeks of travel before returning to the UK in time for Christmas.

Throughout December and into the New Year, there are two further tours taking place, the Amsterdam at Christmastime and Scottish Hogmanay. Both offer the opportunity to keep using your motorhome whilst getting into the Christmas and New Year spirit. Touring in northern Europe during the winter means cool conditions but modern motorhomes are well able to cope comfortably, with heating systems that keep the van warm, even in the coldest of conditions. Both tours can be viewed by clicking on their name above.
For getting away to much warmer climates come the new year, there remains availability on next years Canary Islands tour, starting in January and running for 70 nights travelling through three of the Canary Islands, where the weather is much more summer like than winter.

• Austrian Alps
• Paris at Christmastime – Newly released

Back at home, with winter approaching and if you are not going to be using your motorhome, drain down the habitation water systems to avoid any damage from freezing water in pipes. How to do this should be covered in your motorhome manual, or a call to your dealer should advise how this is done for your particular model. It is also worthwhile keeping the diesel fuel tank full throughout winter. Diesel engines do not like water in their fuel and this can build up inside diesel tanks from condensation forming on the inside in cold conditions. By keeping the fuel tank full, it leaves little space inside for condensation to form.
Even with winter approaching, do keep enjoying your motorhoming. Feel free to contact us at any stage with anything you wish to ask; GB Motorhome Tours operates 12 months of the year, with tours running all year round.
