A journey around Iceland exploring the islands amazing natural phenomenon’s

Iceland is far more different than you ever imagined, where you can witness the marvels of Mother Nature up close. You will see several of the glaciers, spouting geysers, steaming mud-pools, icebergs, magnificent waterfalls and volcanoes, that make up this Islands majestic landscape.

This tour will be best enjoyed by able-bodied, adventurously minded people who enjoy the ‘outdoors’. The driving will be leisurely, and you will have the opportunity to visit many of the attractions while travelling between campsites. There is one main road around Iceland with smaller roads off to the various places of interest, note that some of the smaller roads do not always have tarmac.

The Icelandic view of camping is not always like ours; whilst in picturesque locations their campsites are often more simple affairs with basic facilities; there is no guarantee of an electric hook-up at all sites, so tour participants should be prepared to use gas and 12v when needed.

Our ferry schedule means we also have the opportunity to spend a few days on the Faroe Islands on our return journey, another wonderland of nature. The ferry has a choice of bars and restaurants and various entertainments for you to enjoy during your voyage, with en-suite internal cabins being included for you.

Most of the country is uninhabited, with over 50% of people living in the Reykjavik area, but be assured that the warmth shown by Icelanders, their desire to make your stay as pleasant as possible will, like the spectacular landscape, make this a journey never to be forgotten.

Day One – Monday 14^th June 2027
We meet at a campsite in the north of Denmark. This evening an opportunity to get together around the Tour Directors motorhome for an informal drinks reception, to meet your fellow travellers and have a tour briefing.

Day Two – Tuesday 15^th June
Board the ferry for Iceland this morning and after the vehicles have been loaded, we will set sail. 4 miles

Day Three – Wednesday 16^th June
A day at sea, calling into the Faroe Islands on our way.

Day Four – Thursday 17^th June
Morning arrival at Seyðisfjörður in Iceland. Following disembarkation and customs, we have a short drive to our first campsite in Egilsstaðir. There is a supermarket and bank here for those who need them. 20 miles

Day Five – Friday 18^th June
Start of our journey around Iceland. During our drive today we have time to take detours to begin our acquaintance with some of Iceland’s natural wonders; the Maar Viti Crater, Námafjall bubbling mud-pools and the Grjótagjá steam rift. Our campsite for tonight is on Lake Mývatn. 120 miles

Day Six – Saturday 19^th June
Time this morning to visit the Dimmuborgir Lava Formations before moving on to Dettifoss Waterfall, reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe; see 500 cubic meters of water per second plunge over the edge. Our next campsite is on the north coast.  85 miles

Day Seven – Sunday 20^th June
Short journey to arrive at the coastal town of Húsavík. Group dinner this evening in a local restaurant. 15 miles

Day Eight – Monday 21^st June
This morning we walk in to town to visit the whale museum. During the afternoon/evening we take a boat trip in search of whales and dolphins, with Húsavík bay being a great place for spotting sea life.

Day Nine – Tuesday 22^nd June
En route we can visit the Goðafoss Falls before arriving at Akureyri, the capital of the north of the island. 80 miles

Day Ten – Wednesday 23^rd June
A free day and opportunity to visit Akureyri centre, where the second most northern botanical gardens in the world are found. The local cathedral is also worth a visit, where the stained-glass window was originally claimed to be from our pre-war Coventry cathedral.

Day Eleven – Thursday 24^th June
During today’s drive to Blönduós, make a visit at the Glaumbaer Turf Houses. 100 miles

Day Twelve – Friday 25^th June
Travel along coastal roads, where seals can often be seen, to arrive in the Westfjord region and the town of Hólmavík, complete with its quirky witch museum and a micro-brewery. The Westfjord region has over the last few years undergone major road works, with most of the roads now becoming tarmacked. 120 miles

Day Thirteen – Saturday 26^th June
Travel through the Westfjords and along the coastal ‘seven fjords’ route to reach Ísafjörður, the northwesternmost point of our trip. 140 miles

Day Fourteen – Sunday 27^th June
Free day. There are river & waterfall walks local to the camping or make your way into Isafjördur, the principle town of the Westfjords.

Day Fifteen – Monday 28^th June
Stop at Dynjandi, the most beautiful waterfall in the Westfjords, before arriving on the south coast of the region. 60 miles

Day Sixteen – Tuesday 29^th June
We leave the Westfjord region, either with a drive to our next campsite, or by taking the local ferry (2.5 hrs crossing payable locally). We arrive to Stykkishólmur, where we stay for two nights.  160 miles or 10 miles, ferry, 5 miles.

Day Seventeen – Wednesday 30^th June
A free day at our camping, which is part of the local golf course.

Day Eighteen – Thursday 1^st July
Today drive the Snaefellsnes peninsula taking in Hellissandur and Rif fishing ports, Saxholl Crator and the peculiar rock formations of Djúpalónssandur. 80 miles

Day Nineteen – Friday 2^nd July
Arrive to Iceland’s capital city of Reykjavik, where we stay for 3 nights. 130 miles

Day Twenty – Saturday 3^rd July
Guided excursion into the city today.

Day Twenty-One – Sunday 4^th July
A free day. Return to the city or take a swim in the neighbouring thermal pool. This evening we all go out for a group diner.

Day Twenty-Two – Monday 5^th July
We drive around the Reykjanes area, stopping to see the Bridge of Titanic Plates, the South Western Point Lighthouse and the hot springs at Gunnuhver. Also opportunity this afternoon to visit the world-famous Blue Lagoon. 60 miles

Day Twenty-Three – Tuesday 6^th July
Possibility to visit Iceland’s largest Geothermal power station, complete with interactive visitor centre on route to our camping in Hveragerdi. In Hveragerdi there are walks where good thermal mud pools are seen. 55 miles

Day Twenty-Four – Wednesday 7^th July
Travel to Þingvellir, the sacred Parliament Plain of the island, now a picturesque national park. 30 miles

Day Twenty-Five – Thursday 8^th July
On route visit Gullfoss Falls before arriving at Geysir. Next to our campsite is where the Geysers can be experienced spouting water hundreds of feet into the air. 60 miles

Day Twenty-Six – Friday 9^th July
Drive to our next campsite at Skógafoss Waterfall, stopping off at Seljalandfoss, where we can walk behind the waterfall. 110 miles

Day Twenty-Seven – Saturday 10^th July
A free day. Our camping is located at the foot of the waterfall from where there are walks available to reach the top.

Day Twenty-Eight – Sunday 11^th July
Travel to camp in the Skaftafell National Park for two nights. On route visit Dyrhólaey lighthouse and bay, where many Puffins nest over the summer months. 120 miles

Day Twenty-Nine – Monday 12^th July
Free time to join with the Tour Director’s in a leisurely walk to the Skaftafell Glacier

Day Thirty – Tuesday 13^th July
We experience one of the highlights of the tour, a trip in an amphibious vehicle on Jökulsárlón Lake. It is this lake where the icebergs form before they break away and drift into the open sea. Later travel on to the coastal town of Höfn. 80 miles

Day Thirty-One – Wednesday 14^th July
We return to our first campsite ready for our ferry tomorrow. This evening we all go out for a Farewell Dinner. During the afternoon, opportunity to enjoy Vok baths, one of Iceland’s best naturally located thermal spa’s. 160 miles

Day Thirty-Two – Thursday 15^th July
Travel to the port where our ferry leaves for the start of our return home journey, but not before a stop off at the Faroe Islands. 20 miles

Day Thirty-Three – Friday 16^th July
Very early morning arrival to Torshavn in the Faroe Islands, where we disembark and drive to the town of Vestmanna. From our campsite there are possibilities to take boat trips for viewing the local birds. 25 miles

Day Thirty-Four – Saturday 17^th July
Spend the day driving and exploring the main Faroe Islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy, before taking the 2020 opened 11km undersea tunnel (toll payable locally), complete with underwater roundabout (the world’s first) to arrive back at the island’s capital of Torshavn. From our camping, Torshavn centre is walkable for spending time to explore this capital city of just 20,000 people. 70 miles

Day Thirty-Five – Sunday 18^th July
A relaxed start with time throughout the day to see a little more of the Faroes, before we board our ferry this evening for returning to Denmark. 5 miles

Day Thirty-Six – Monday 19^th July
A day at sea.

Day Thirty-Seven – Tuesday 20^th July
The tour ends with our morning arrival at Hirtshals, Denmark.
