July and the summer is here, with some ….

Dear Fellow Motorhomer,

July and the summer is here, with some hot weather being experienced in the UK. Across much of Europe it is hotter still, too hot for many motorhomers to find comfortable. For this reason, we plan most of our continental tours to finish by now. Over the last few weeks five tours have recently completed, covering destinations from Norway in the north, to Poland in the East, Romania and Bulgaria in the south, Germany in the centre and one crossing much of Europe east to west. One tour remains ongoing, this is the Baltic States Adventure, where being so far north, participants are enjoying the very long light evenings available there at this time of year.

At this time next year, another northern tour that will be taking place is the Discover Iceland tour. Iceland is a unique destination offering travel variety not found elsewhere in Europe. Being a very long way north, at this time of year Iceland provides a certain escape from extreme temperatures, whilst at the same time offers 24 hours of daylight during the mid-summer period. Midnight on the Discover Iceland tour – July 2025Another tour with some availability and at a time when the temperatures will not be hot, is the Paris at Christmastime tour. Enjoy the build up to Christmas in one of Europe’s great cities, included in the tour is a wonderful evening with Champagne dinner at the icon Moulin Rouge.
GB Motorhome Tours take many motorhomes every year to far and wonderful places, along with some closer to home destinations. From the north of Iceland to the south of the Canary Islands, from the west of Portugal to the east of Turkey. Going forward, Turkey will stop featuring in our tour programme, not because we don’t wish to continue to include this wonderful touring destination, but because getting vehicle insurance to include Turkey from UK motorhome insurers has become difficult. The Western Turkey tour for this year is definitely proceeding as planned and there is one cancellation place available, if you would like to take this final opportunity to motorhome in this wonderful destination contact us for details.

With much of our touring taking a break for the summer period, GB Motorhome Tours have time to attend two of the large outdoor motorhome shows taking place over the next month. There are a number of our Tour Directors attending each show, where they will be on hand to chat and answer any travel questions you may have. If you are at either of these, do come along to our stand to see us.

For travel in Europe, with the UK no longer an EU member state, time for UK passport holders within the Schengen zone is limited to 90 days in any 180 day rolling period. With the introduction of the EU’s border EES (Entry/Exit System), this rule is beginning to be more tightly controlled. In theory, each entry/exit will be recorded electronically to allow border guards instant information on how long a person has been in the Schengen zone and how long they are eligible to stay. Most of the EU’s external borders are now operating the system, or trying to! This can mean that currently the information is not necessarily 100% accurate, leading to some false readings. It is possible to check the data held for any passport on the EES system, on their Check how long you can stay page. It is worth doing this for your own passport to confirm the correct result is showing, and if there appears to be an error, send details of this to the EU on their Write to us page to have it corrected.
