Dear Fellow Motorhomer,
January and with the start of the new year brings another year of great motorhome touring ahead. Despite the year just beginning, one GB Motorhome Tours has already been completed. The Scottish Hogmanay tour finished a week ago, where tour participants enjoyed celebrating the arrival of 2026 Scottish style, followed by 8 days of touring in Scotland’s central area.

Whilst it is cold in the UK at this time of year, some motorhomers are already heading for touring in summer like conditions, as they travel south towards the warmth and sunshine of the Canary Islands. This years Canary Islands tour is now just one week away from starting in southern Spain.

As well as 2027 to look forward to, there are all of the 2026 tours to be enjoyed. All 2026 GB Motorhome Tours holidays are now on the website, with the last for this year having just been added. This is an autumn tour along Germany’s Romantic Road and through the German Alps to arrive in Munich for the magnificent Oktoberfest, the worlds largest festival of beer. The full Romantic Strasse to Oktoberfest itinerary is available by clicking on its name, with places on the tour now available to book. Another tour place that has just become available is a cancellation place on this years Romania & Bulgaria tour, starting in May this tour offers travel in two of Eastern Europe’s least explored countries. Click on the tours name to see the full itinerary. On from these two tours, there remains availability on a limited number of our other 2026 tours, those with places are
• Southern Norway – June for 23 nights
• Rhine in Flames Spectacular – June/July for 11 nights
• Austrian Alps – September for 16 nights
• Paris at Christmastime – December for 6 nights
On most of our continental holidays, GB Motorhome Tours offers the option for participants to start their tour on the continent or from the UK. This gives flexibility for individuals to choose which works best for them. If you have a 2026 tour booking which currently doesn’t have the optional travel from UK with Tour Directors package included and you would now like to add this, it remains possible to do so at this stage. Send us an email requesting the optional package be added to your booking and this will be done for you, with a confirmation email sent. Full details of the tours optional package can be viewed at the end of each tour itinerary on the GB Motorhome Tours website.
For driving a motorhome with a weight over 3,500kg it is necessary to have a driving licence that includes category C1. From age 70 onwards, category C1 becomes subject to passing a medical examination, which if failed results in the loss of the category C1, whilst retaining the normal car category B. This gives rise to problems where the motorhome is over 3,500kg and the owner no longer has the licence to drive it. There are now changes taking place in the EU with the aim of increasing this weight, to allow for motorhomes up to 4,250kg to be driven on a normal category B license, thus taking away the need to keep the C1 category (unless the motorhome exceeds 4,250kg). Since Brexit, EU law does not apply in the UK, so EU changes will not automatically take place here. To try and get equality for UK drivers, a UK motorhomer has set up a government petition to request the matter also be considered here. To add your name to this and help the petition reach the required number of signatures to have the government respond, click https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/741293
Another change in driving rules that has recently taken place is in Spain. Where warning triangles have been replaced by an electronic warning beacon (called V-16), this is placed on the roof of the vehicle in the event of a breakdown rather than put out a warning triangle. However, the change is not being applied to foreign registered vehicles travelling in Spain, so you can continue with a warning triangle or if preferred, purchase the V-16.
All of us at GB Motorhome Tours look forward to many great travels with you throughout 2026 and beyond. Feel free to contact us if there is anything you would like to ask about any tours.
