Dear Fellow Motorhomer,
December and as we enter the festive season all of us at GB Motorhome Tours wish you a Merry Christmas. Despite the year drawing to an end, our touring programme continues with the Scottish Hogmanay tour still to start before the year finishes. This tour features seeing the new year in Scottish style, with a night of dinner, entertainment and celebration at a Scottish coaching Inn. This is then followed by 9 nights of Scottish touring, with visits around Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling. If you would still like to have one last get away this year, then we may be able to also accommodate you on the tour; contact us and we will do our very best to include you. Full tour itinerary here. A couple of weeks ago, the Portugal and Spain Discovery tour finished in southern Spain, having spent 7 weeks touring the Costa Verde (Spain’s Green Coast), the length of Portugal from north to south, and Spain’s Andalucia southern region.

Some customer reviews from the tour.
‘GB Motorhome Tours careful plan for the tour has given us everything from tiny churches to huge mosques, tasting sessions of wine, sherry and port, and a better understanding of Spanish & Portuguese history. Thank you so much.’ Eileen and Tony Pickering
‘Whisper headphones on days out are an excellent addition. Journey by Tuk-Tuk a great idea. Overall a fantastic trip, so many highlights, memory is in overload.’ Andrea Gilliver and Ken Starmer
A surprise from touring in Spain at this time of year is how big Christmas is celebrated there, and in particularly, how well they do their Christmas illuminations. Whilst in Cadiz, tour participants on the Portugal and Spain Discovery tour were able to join with the Tour Directors to attend the switching on of the city’s illuminations, this was a 90-minute event containing flamenco dancing, classical music and Christmas songs, all set to an elaborate display of Christmas lights.

Are you looking for a Christmas gift to put into your motorhome? On tours we are now noticing campsites introducing more sophisticated electric hook-up systems, this is primarily in relation to monitoring and charging for the amount of electricity consumed by each motorhome. However, as part of this process the new supplies are also becoming more safety conscious, with the fitment of RCD (Residual Current Device) protection. An RCD rapidly cuts the supply if it detects a problem, by disconnecting power much faster than standard breakers. RCDs monitor incoming and outgoing current and if they don’t match they trip, protecting against faults including damp. This can create a problem for motorhomes when connections in hook-up cables are left unprotected and it rains, allowing damp to penetrate the connection and thus trip the supply via the RCD. This particularly applies when joining cables together, either to extend the length or when using a 2-pin adaptor cable, commonly used on the continent. A simple, cheap and effective solution is to protect the joint from exposure to the rain. Using a purpose made watertight cover as below is ideal.

These are available from dealer accessary stores and also online via Amazon and eBay. Treat your motorhome to a Christmas present that will ensure the electric supply to your van remains uninterrupted when next joining cables together or using a 2-pin adaptor in the rain.
From all of us at GB Motorhome Tours, all the very best for the coming New Year and for lots of great motorhome travels in 2026. Feel free to contact us for answers to any questions you have regarding our tours.
