August and the summer is moving on, albeit, in the southern half of the UK it remains very warm and dry. At this time of year GB Motorhome Tours tends not to travel; it is generally too busy and hot to offer ideal conditions for touring. One exception is touring in Iceland, where the summer is the ultimate time to be there. It remains un-crowded and never gets too hot being so far north. As part of the Discover Iceland tour, is included a 3 day stop in the Faroe Islands. Made up of 18 islands, 17 of which are inhabited, many of these islands are now linked by undersea tunnels, including the recently opened 11km tunnel joining 3 roads with the world’s first undersea roundabout, click to see this on the BBC video of the tunnels. Iceland provides sights that nowhere else in Europe offers; volcanos & lava flows, glaciers & icebergs, craters and canyons, waterfalls & geysers, bubbling mud pools & hot spas, whales & seals, artic foxes & puffins, along with spectacular scenery at every turn. Next years Discover Iceland tour takes place mid-June to mid-July and there currently remains a tour place available.
Another more northern destination that is good to tour in during the summer months is the Baltic States.

For other tours throughout next year, our 2027 tours programme can be viewed on the GB Motorhome Tours website. A further tour that will definitely be added to the programme is Slovenia. A small country from the former Yugoslavia, Slovenia is great to travel in. Within our tour will be stays and visits at the Triglav National Park, Lake Bled, Postojna Cave, the Adriatic Coast, Lipizzaner stud farm, Ljubljana (capital of Slovenia), Terme Catez and Ptuj (Slovenia’s oldest town). The itinerary for this tour is expected to be available in October, with the tour taking place May/June next year. If you would like to pre-register interest in the tour, send us an email and this will be done for you. The full tour itinerary will then be emailed to you in advance of it being made available generally, giving you first opportunity of requested a tour place if you wish at that time.

GB Motorhome Tours completes many tours each year, taking motorhomers to destinations all across Europe and beyond. Throughout tours most participants travel problem free, but should someone have a problem, GB Motorhome Tours are well positioned to assist. From many years of running tours, we have become very experienced and whilst we can not always personally overcome all issues, the network of contacts we have in all countries is extensive, placing us well to help quickly obtain the right assistance. This gives another layer of security to travel, when booking a GB Motorhome Tours holiday.
Coming back to the very hot weather. Travelling in higher temperatures means vehicle tyres run hotter, which can place addition pressures on them. This is not a problem for newer tyres but can put strain on older tyres, leading to a potential blowout. Typically, motorhome tyres do not get the tread worn out due to the lower millages most motorhomes travel, however, once a tyre gets to around 6 years old it begins to reach its recommended safe working life. On each tyre is a date stamp, this is in the form of four numbers. The first two numbers are the week of manufacture and the second two the year of manufacture. A date stamp of 21/18 equates to week 21 of 2018, meaning the tyre was produced at the end of May 2018, making it 8 years old as of now. The date stamp is located on the side wall of each tyre, however it is usually only put on one side, so it can sometimes involve looking at the tyre from the inside to find it. Now is a good time to check the age of your tyres if your motorhome is from 2021 or earlier, tyres can be older than the actual motorhome registration date. If older than 6 years, consider replacing regardless of the tread remaining.
