Dear Fellow Motorhomer,
April and spring is here with great touring opportunities opening up. Before April, touring in Europe generally proves inconsistent in achieving good weather, not so if travelling a lot further south in the Canary Islands. Those on this years Canary Islands tour have just returned to mainland Europe, following 10 weeks in the islands experiencing adventure in the best weather to be found in Europe between January and April each year.
Camping in Gran Canaria – March 2026
A customer review from the tour.
‘Changed my whole perspective of the Canaries. Saw and experienced a side the regular tourist never sees. Without a doubt an adventure. Certainly required an open mind to driving and camping facilities and a flexible approach to itinerary variations. Well done to Jane and Douglas for staying on top of it all.’ Chris and Bridget Neighbour
As one tour in the sunshine finishes another is just starting, with the Greece 2026 tour recently underway.
Boarding the ferry from Italy to Greece – April 2026
Whilst the main touring season for 2026 is just getting underway, plans for 2027 are also well in hand. Two further tours have recently been added to the GB Motorhome Tours website for next year
• Northern Spain Discovery 15 nights September 2027 – Enjoy touring in a lesser-known area of Spain as we discover the gems of its north; including the Rioja wine region, the Picos de Europa mountains, the Costa Verde (Green Coast), the Camino de Santiago pilgrims way and the cities of Burgos and Oviedo.
• Portugal Discovery 24 nights October 2027 – Taking in the length of the country from north to south whilst touring in a relaxed manor passing thorough the Douro valley region with its port wine lodges, the Atlantic coast with its colourful cites of Aveiro and Coimbra, the inland fortification towns of Obidos and Tomar (home of the Templar Knights), to pass through the cork growing region to arrive on the Algarve with its golden beaches.
The Northern Spain Discovery and Portugal Discovery tours can be combined, there are 2 days and 145 miles between the two, to provide a 40 night tour of discovery. Both tours are available book now, either independent of each other or combined.
A further tour for 2027 that will be added to the website shortly, is the all new Celtic Charms. Taking in areas from two of the Celtic countries, the tour travels through the south west region of Scotland and the whole of Northern Ireland. Gretna Green, Moffat, Culzean Castle and Stranraer feature in Scotland, before we travel to Northern Ireland for Belfast, Londonderry, Bushmills and the Giants Causeway. If you would like to receive the full tour itinerary ahead of it being released generally on the GB Motorhome Tours website, send us a simple email to pre-register your interest.
Touring by motorhome is what we all love to do; for this diesel fuel is required. Over the last month, worldwide events have been affecting the shipment of oil, a necessary ingredient currently for all motorhomes to travel. GB Motorhome Tours has been, and is continuing to monitor the situation of fuel availability in the UK and throughout Europe. We are obtaining information from our suppliers based in the countries of our tours, along with first-hand experience from tours already travelling in Europe and from general news items. Our current information regarding diesel supplies is there are no concerning issues with availability affecting any tours and tours remain fine to undertake. As a precaution, our advice is for all those touring to keep motorhome fuel tanks reasonably well filled. Once down to around half, fill back up to keep a good range of fuel available within the motorhome at all times. We continue to monitor the situation and will be in touch with tour participants should we feel there is a change in position that could impact their tour. Ultimately, if fuel rationing was introduced at a level meaning a tour was no longer viable, then GB Motorhome Tours would cancel the tour. Cancelling a tour is not something we do lightly and have only previously done so during Covid. In the event of GB Motorhome Tours cancelling a tour, then all money paid directly for that tour is refunded in full. This is covered by the Package Tour Regulations 2018, which as a registered tour operator, GB Motorhome Tours fully abides by. This gives total security for all tour money paid in the event of a tour being cancelled.
Keeping positive that fuel will remain available for touring, now is a time to start preparing the motorhomes ready for travel in the warmer season ahead. One job to carry our periodically is to give the fresh water tank, pipework and taps a wash through with a solution of sterilised water. This can easily be achieved by adding sterilising tablets or fluid to your main fresh water tank, allowing them to dissolve/mix in and then pumping the water through to all locations by opening each of the taps for a couple of minutes, leave the sterilising solution in the system for 24 hours then drain down before refilling with clean fresh water. Your motorhome water system will then be fresh and ready for your next outing.
Happy touring to all, whether that be in the UK or much further afield, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
